BAFTA LECTURES

BAFTA partnered with IDSA Studios to host a series of private talks for students, featuring high-profile figures including Ryan Coogler and Eddie Marsan. Due to the confidential nature of the events, announcements were often made at short notice. 1711 Studios was responsible for ensuring each session was communicated clearly and creatively, keeping students informed, engaged, and ready to attend.

CASE STUDY

Client: IDSA in partnership with BAFTA

Service Areas: Internal communications strategy, narrative-led email campaigns, design and visual storytelling, and workflow optimisation using emerging tools.

  • When IDSA Studios partnered with BAFTA to host a series of private talks featuring leading figures in film and television, including Ryan Coogler and Eddie Marsan, the focus was on internal visibility and engagement. These events were invitation-only, time-sensitive, and required clear, immediate communication to ensure students were informed and engaged without delay.

  • Due to the confidential nature of the events, communication windows were extremely tight. In many cases, campaigns needed to be conceived, built, and delivered with less than an hour’s notice, while still reaching the full student body in a way that felt considered rather than rushed.

There was also a content constraint. Visual assets from the talks could not be shared publicly, limiting traditional promotional approaches both during and after each event.

  • We led internal communications strategy for the talks, focusing on clarity, urgency, and tone. Each announcement was treated as a moment, with messaging designed to feel timely, exciting, and aligned with the calibre of the speakers involved.

Rather than relying on visuals, we leaned into narrative and language, ensuring each communication conveyed both the opportunity and significance of the talks. Post-event, we extended the story by capturing student reflections, using their responses to maintain momentum and reinforce the value of the series.

    Our work included:

    • Rapid-turnaround internal communications planning

    • Narrative framing for confidential, time-sensitive announcements

    • Design-led email communications aligned with brand tone

  • Despite tight timelines and content limitations, the communications achieved strong engagement across each release. Open rates and interaction remained consistently high, and the series developed a growing sense of anticipation among students.

By shifting focus from event documentation to lived experience, the talks continued to resonate beyond the moment itself, supporting ongoing engagement and interest in future sessions.

  • The work ensured that high-profile BAFTA collaborations were communicated clearly, consistently, and with the level of care they warranted. Even under pressure, the talks were positioned as meaningful moments within the wider IDSA community.

This project reflects 1711 Studios’ approach to PR and communications: prioritising clarity, narrative, and audience understanding, even when time, access, and assets are limited.
